Cocktail Lounge, Jakarta

This high-end cocktail bar in Jakarta was conceived as an intimate retreat from the intensity of the city, a space where architecture, music and atmosphere blend into a warm, immersive experience. Inspired by the spatial intimacy of classic jazz clubs, the design embraces a layered composition of textures, curved forms and warm material tones that create a sense of depth and comfort. Softly curved architectural elements guide movement through the venue, forming intimate seating pockets and lounge areas that encourage slow conversations and lingering evenings. Arched timber structures, framed wall panels and layered ceiling forms introduce rhythm and repetition, subtly echoing the cadence and improvisation of jazz music. Materiality plays a central role in shaping the mood of the space. A rich palette of warm woods patinated copper and textured leather establishes a tactile environment that feels both refined and relaxed. Hammered metal ceilings catch and diffuse the ambient light, while deep green marble bar counters add weight and contrast to the otherwise warm tonal composition.

The bar itself acts as the social heart of the venue — a sculptural focal point framed by illuminated shelving and curated displays. Surrounding lounge areas combine plush seating, intimate lighting and library-like shelving filled with objects, books and records, reinforcing the atmosphere of a sophisticated yet relaxed gathering place.

Soft, layered lighting enhances the architectural textures and creates a warm glow throughout the space, reminiscent of the dimly lit interiors of classic jazz lounges. The result is an environment that feels both cinematic and inviting — a place designed not only for dining and cocktails, but for atmosphere, conversation and music. The project explores how architecture can shape experience through intimacy, material richness and spatial rhythm, translating the spirit of jazz into a contemporary hospitality setting.

Particular attention was given to the detailing throughout the project, where craftsmanship and precision quietly shape the atmosphere of the space. Timber wall panels are articulated with rhythmic framing and subtle relief, creating depth and shadow that enrich the otherwise restrained palette. Custom seating and banquettes are carefully integrated into the architecture, allowing curves and junctions to feel seamless and sculptural rather than applied.

The bar counter, carved from deep green marble, is balanced by finely proportioned brass and timber elements, while hammered metal ceilings introduce a textured surface that catches light and adds a subtle shimmer overhead. Lighting fixtures, joinery edges and shelving systems were all designed as part of a cohesive architectural language, ensuring that every junction, corner and surface contributes to the overall sense of warmth, tactility and crafted elegance
