Interiors Velvet dining lounge, Jakarta
Velvet is a moody dining and cocktail lounge designed around warmth, intimacy and the slow drama of the night. The space moves away from a typical restaurant layout and creates a sequence of layered moments, from the dark marble reception and softly lit corridor to private booths, curved banquettes and atmospheric dining zones. The design language is rich but controlled. Warm timber, deep brown walls, black marble, bronze detailing and soft leather create a sense of quiet luxury. Curved architectural forms wrap around the guests, making the space feel protective and cinematic, while the rhythm of timber panels, vertical arches and textured ceiling elements gives the interior a strong architectural identity. Lighting plays a key role in the experience. Instead of bright, generic illumination, Velvet uses concealed light, wall lamps and warm highlights to create depth, shadow and intimacy. The result is a space that feels elegant, sensual and immersive, designed for long dinners, late cocktails and conversations that stretch into the night.
Soft, layered lighting enhances the architectural textures and creates a warm glow throughout the space, reminiscent of the dimly lit interiors of classic jazz lounges. The result is an environment that feels both cinematic and inviting — a place designed not only for dining and cocktails, but for atmosphere, conversation and music. The project explores how architecture can shape experience through intimacy, material richness and spatial rhythm, translating the spirit of jazz into a contemporary hospitality setting.
A key feature of the project is the detailed timber wall system. The panels combine vertical proportions, rounded edges and a subtle studded texture, creating a backdrop that feels both crafted and contemporary. Integrated lighting enhances the grain of the wood and turns the walls into a soft architectural feature rather than a simple surface treatment. The seating areas are designed to support different levels of privacy. Long banquettes, intimate booths and curved partitions allow guests to feel connected to the energy of the room while still having their own personal space. This balance between openness and enclosure gives the venue a hospitality driven character, closer to a private members lounge than a conventional restaurant. Art, materiality and atmosphere work together to give the project its identity. Velvet is designed as a complete sensory experience, where architecture, lighting, furniture and detailing create a space that feels timeless, cinematic and quietly bold.
